As a freelancer, she has worked with the Associated Press, Climate Central, Grist, The Guardian, NPR, Popular Science, the Washington Post and a variety of local and regional publications. Before launching her freelance career at the end of 2021, Maddy briefly worked as a part-time writer for the University of Delaware’s College of Engineering and as a communications specialist for the nonprofit Delaware Center for the Inland Bays. She gained experience as a staff reporter at the locally owned Cape Gazette and later at USA Today Network’s Delaware Online/The News Journal, where she covered statewide environmental stories and news out of southern Delaware. Maddy is an active member of the Delaware Press Association, IRE (Investigative Reporters & Editors), the Society of Environmental Journalists and the Society of Professional Journalists. She earned a dual degree in English and journalism from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, where fries on sandwiches truly made her feel right at home. Maddy grew up on the East Coast and now lives in Dover, Delaware, with her husband, Scott, their young daughter and far too many pets. In her free time, she enjoys riding horses, birding and falling out of her kayak.
